When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. This year, regulations were changed to require increased fuel efficiency from the cars brave enough to compete in the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship races. As a result of the new regulations, Toyota Racing developed “the most advanced hybrid technology in racing,” the 1,000 horsepower TS040 Hybrid.
Rather than cower under the demand for 25 percent increased fuel economy over last year and the pressure of a fuel flow meter monitoring average usage every three laps, Toyota Racing worked to craft a hybrid beast, pairing a 3.7-liter V8 engine that produces 520 hp with a 480 hp electric motor/generator system.
The result is a four-wheel drive masterpiece with more horsepower than we’ve seen on an endurance racetrack since 1990.
Team president, Yoshiaki Kinoshita, said, “We are very much looking forward to our third season in the FIA World Endurance Championship when we will fight to achieve our dream of winning Le Mans and the World Championship.”
You can catch the upcoming 6 Hours of Silverstone race live online on April 20.
We at Wondries Toyota will be enjoying the race with a tall glass of lemonade.
