In 1979, the performance car world fell in love with the Toyota Supra. It quickly became an icon across the world until it was retired in 2002. At the time of its departure, it was Toyota’s most powerful production model, leaving many hoping for a day where the Supra’s time would come again.
Making A Comeback?
Now, at long last, the Supra might be making a comeback. At the recent Geneva Motor Show, Toyota unveiled its GR Supra Racing Concept. This is front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car shows all indications of a return to the Supra’s former glory. Its massive rear wing, low-riding chassis, lightweight materials, and Michelin racing tires would make this concept a threat on any race track.
Toyota hasn’t 100% confirmed that it will be putting the Supra back into production, but with this reveal, it seems as close to a sure thing as it can be. We will have to wait for additional details from Toyota.
The concept was developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing. And, while you won’t be able to own the concept, you will be able to drive it, at least in digital form. The GR Supra Racing Concept will be featured in an April update for the Gran Turismo video game.
If you’re one of the many, many Toyota enthusiasts biding your time for the return of the Supra, stay tuned. In the meantime, if you’re looking for a high-performing Toyota, stop into Wondries Toyota to try out the exciting Toyota 86.
